So, what are you reading? Anything you’d like me to check out? Of course, I had to read (and devour) Michael Connelly’s latest book The Night Fire. Also breezed through Elton John’s autobiography Me, Ann Patchett’s novel The Dutch House and Elizabeth Strout’s latest Olive Kitteridge book Olive, Again.

Newman’s book is unbelievable, as he provides a roadmap for anyone interested in becoming a speaker. Read carefully: he has crammed a $10,000/year coaching program into a $20 book. If you don’t grab this treasure, you’re not serious about speaking. Even an old hack like me learned some practical tips!

Couldn’t put this book down! Read it on a flight from Houston to Los Angeles, and I chuckled at Maher’s escapades with co-conspirators as they successfully invaded some of Hollywood’s biggest events. They know no fear, and I am convinced he needs to make this into a reality TV show (look for the Steven Seagal lookalike stories and the invalid having his “last supper” at a posh sushi restaurant beside the Farrelly brothers; they’re priceless!).

I’ve had more and more teen girls and their parents asking me for teen romance picks, so here’s one I liked for its “positivity.” Leah Kurtz has finally found a place to call home, a town where she and baby Addy can live in peace, far from the drug-infested place she grew up. Chris is one of the best parts of her new life, the only person who’s ever made her feel safe. And now that she’s found him, there’s no way she can tell the truth: her real name is Faith, not Leah. She’s seventeen, not nineteen. And the baby isn’t hers – Faith kidnapped her. There is nothing typical about this book, and the short chapters force you to finish the book in one sitting (or face annoying questions about what happens next!).

I recently watched the film The Current War about the race for electricity between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse (along with Nikola Tesla), and it brought to mind this great book.
