December 2009

Hi folks!

I was thrilled to find out that George Clooney is starring this month in a movie version of Up in the Air, another wonderful book by Walter Kirn (who also wrote several other great books, including Thumbsucker and The Unbinding). Many thanks to my great friend Jordan Henry for loaning me his copy for an extended period of time (I have been on the road too long to return his book promptly). This past month I also read some autobiographies by athletes and politicians, and I must ask: how is it that jocks tend to write more gripping and – dare I say – better written autobiographies than politicians? I won’t mention the miserable political autobiography I read, but I will plug Andre Agassi’s Open, as he truly presents a compelling read about his highly successful and flawed life (most politicians avoid the bad stuff). I also have to plug The Second City Unscripted by Mike Thomas, as I loved the anecdotes and did not have a true grasp of how many important comedians emerged from Second City. This book was a guilty pleasure for me!

Anyhow, enjoy this month’s book selections below. I hope you are all reading some wonderful books. Make sure to tell me all about them. If you're an author or a publisher and would like to send me review copies of your book(s), please send them to the address listed for authors and publishers.
